Millenium of Milling
Worsbrough Mill has secured funding of £244,111 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to celebrate its unique industrial heritage and future proof its history through new volunteering opportunities, community engagement, and creative commissions.
The project has also received £12,500 from Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust, a charity that supports the work of Barnsley Museums.
The money awarded will support work to put a spotlight on the Mill and will focus on,
- Renovating the learning and engagement space on site
- Develop new volunteering opportunities such as mill tours
- Take the mill on tour with pop up event across Barnsley.
- Celebrating 400 years of Worsbrough Mill in 2025 - commissioning creatives and working with communities to do this.
- Create new interpretation in the mill to increase engagement and consult with our visitors on what they want to see in the mill.
The Mill shaft repair
Along side the lottery funded work, we are also undertaking the work needed to restore the up-right shaft after it developed a fault meaning we are unable to run the mill.
With thanks for Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust, Barnsley Council and an incredible community response we have been able to raise the funds needed to undertake this work.
This work will take place in 2025 and be part of the overall celebrations and spotlighting of the Mill.
