Worsbrough Mill Volunteers Win Prestigious Award

Barnsley Museums are delighted to announce that the Worsbrough Mill Youth Action Volunteers have been named Volunteers of the Year at the Museums + Heritage Awards.

The award was given at a virtual event that took place on Tuesday, 22 September and recognises the outstanding contribution volunteers make to the sector by giving up their time in support of arts and culture. 

The team is made up of young people from across Barnsley with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) who are giving up their time at Worsbrough Mill Country Park to improve the outside spaces.

Supported by Opening Doors and Qdos Creates, the group were nominated for their fantastic efforts, which include making wildlife habitats and birdboxes, protecting the environment in the park, creating artistic interpretation for the site and fundraising over £100 in donations. Their work has made an incredible impact on the area and they are keen to continue their work at the Mill when it is safe to do so.

We are absolutely delighted that the work of the Worsbrough Mill Youth Action Volunteers has been recognised in this way. The improvements they have made to the Country Park have had such a positive impact on visitors and we would really like to thank them for their continued hard work and dedication.  We look forward to working with the group and all our volunteers in the future on new and exciting projects.
